Abundance, Acceptance, and Luck
Jupiter is the planet that governs good luck, wisdom, wealth, the law, and expansion. And in 2021 he is bringing his jovial self to the Pisces area of your chart. He is ready to take a dip in the pools of acceptance and assistance. Read on to see how he will blow a kiss of luck to your horoscope this spring.
He has two homes of Sagittarius and Pisces. While in Sagittarius he’s able to extend his sociable self and dream big from his soapboxes and pulpits; in Pisces he turns his wisdom inward to see the interconnection of society. In Pisces, Jupiter feels his compassion and appreciation expand to accept everyone while building safety nets of selfless love. Jupiter in these signs always brings a focus beyond the boarders and raises the awareness that we are in it together.
Every 12 years he comes home to roost and give an extra kiss of luck to the area of your chart governed by Pisces. He is the greatest benefic in our solar system and on May 13th he will peak into Pisces until July 28th. Let’s explore what you can expect from this golden period on the world stage and your own back yard.
Jupiter Cycles + Returns
Jupiter is the largest planet in our solar system and he takes about a year to travel through a sign. So every 12 years he makes one full cycle through the zodiac. When he makes that full trip its called a Jupiter Return because he has returned to his original position in your birth chart.
Someone with an average lifespan can count on 4-5 Jupiter returns. During that year, a cycle completes and you get an extra boost of luck. Typically this manifests in new interests, new money, mentors, students, or even a new perspective into life philosophy. As Jupiter revisits his natal placement again and again, the cycles of maturity and wisdom layer into the personality. Jupiter is a collective planet, so with every return we discover how individuals integrate themselves into society. While the first return around age 12 may bring about a spark of purpose and life interests, the return around age 48 brings about an awareness of transforming from a worker bee into a mentor in their fields.
I discovered astrology during my first Jupiter return which became a life long quest. Another friend discovered their love of interfaith chaplaincy during a Jupiter return and it became a second career. Both of these equated out to be callings or avocations. Jupiter returns cause reflection on legacies and contributions in making the world a better place.
Jupiter in the Elements
Jupiter does well in his home signs of Sagittarius and Pisces as well in his sign of exaltation of Cancer. In the fire of Sagittarius and waters of Cancer and Pisces, he can expand his influence and spread to his heart’s content. Sagittarius is like a forest fire. The flames of inspiration and exploration rage. Cancer is like the ocean where the water lulls and nourishes. Pisces is like the fog that covers every nook and cranny of a landscape. With all three you have dispersed boundaires and containment is challenging at best. Every fire line in the mountain is a suggestion; in a storm you have to ride the waves; and a wall will not stop the fog.
Jupiter doesn’t like the earth signs as they weigh him down with practical matters. Earth always contains. But he can wax philosophical about his heart’s desire in fire and water. Jupiter also has a distinct dislike for fixed signs where he finds too many boundaries or stubborn resolves. The fixed signs do not yield to persuasion well. He’d rather spread his passion and enthusiasm in the mutable signs of Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius, and Pisces.
Society Trends + Timing
While Jupiter is traversing his home sign of Pisces, we can expect themes of finding meaning in connections, sacrificing for greater gains, and helping others get back on their feet. Redemption, forgiveness, and perspective are paths many will take.
The last time Jupiter was in Pisces was 2010 through Spring of 2011. The US was recovering from its housing crisis of 2008/2009. Loan forgiveness became a path of redemption for both the individual investors, but the banks as well. Another world headline was WikiLeaks where government secrets flooded the public in the interest of transparency. While Julian Assange believed more information was better, it became a serious breach of security. We also saw the first outbreak of cholera in 50 years where humanitarian aide spilled from International organizations. Cholera is a disease spread through contaminated water, which is the element of Pisces.
As we look to how COVID plays out with Jupiter in Pisces, I would expect a bit of a reprieve and a flair for International help to those who need it. It is a drive of humanitarian need. A word of caution here: Jupiter can also bring about an excess. Another potential theme could be the overestimation of people’s desire to get the vaccine. Maybe we see an oversupply problem as reluctance and fear settles in. It could also manifest in new research showing that the vaccine needs additional boosters or a new mutation. All of these scenarios deal with themes of Jupiterian excess, expansion, and over-confidence. As they say, with the light comes the dark.
When Jupiter is back in Aquarius from July – December, we have time to tie up loose ends and evaluate. Aquarius is noted for the scientific method where data is king when creating new policies and proceedures. It really is perfect timing for planning the school year and people’s return to the office. And maybe, fingers crossed, we will have passed that threshold of herd immunity by February 2022 when Jupiter is solidly passing new ground of the zodiac and reestablishing the humanity and connection in Pisces.
Individually Speaking + Horoscopes
Like I mentioned, Jupiter will bring an extra bit of luck and ease as he kisses his home sign on the cheek. Watch for themes that pop up May 13 – July 28th. The themes you see will pop back up in December 2021 – May 2022. Think of this spring as a bit of a preview.
