Old Guard, New Castle: Saturn in Aquarius

Saturn is in his official swan song of 2020 as he prepares to exit Capricorn mid-December.  Over the past three years he has put his foot down and demanded hard work. Everyone was rewarded with changes that will endure for the next 28 years.  He was king of his castle in Capricorn by dismantling systems, government, assumptions about authority, and reframing achievements.  Think back to how your life has changed and what systems you put in place since December 2017.  Perhaps your life in the pubic eye shifted or even a career shift?  Maybe you moved or grew into new family roles?  Whatever was created will endure and Saturn will leave one last parting gift before leaving.

Saturn’s Nature

But where is he going now?  Saturn rules both Capricorn and Aquarius so in many senses he is just leaving one castle for another.  Imagine a grand manor on the English countryside with its imposing stone walls, weighty architecture and turrets to fly his flag of authority.  That, my friends, is Capricorn and Saturn is king.  Now imagine a crystalline palace high in the sky made of nothing but windows. The views from all sides are spectacular and the rooms are filled with libraries and great rooms with large tables for in depth conversations and maps of the great beyond. This is how Saturn rules the roost of Aquarius. While he shored up the security in Capricorn, he is now going to surround himself with ideals and possibilities.

Saturn is a dry and cold planet.  He is comfortable in settings where emotions do not plague him, but he can get either down to earth and secure resources or he can connect with others through exploration of thoughts and ideals.  You must first define the boundaries of your kingdom before you know where to expand.  This is the transition from Capricorn to Aquarius.

Revolution or Evolution?

For the next three years Saturn will take his stern logic and keen eyesight to identify potential.  He wants what is idealistically right for the whole.  He feels a certain stewardship to those he governs.  And as such he can feel alone in a crowd quite easily.  In Aquarius he enjoys exploring and letting his mind wander to come back to the group and share his ideas.  Although he gets more credit for revolution, what he’s really interested in is evolution.  There are distinct differences.  He doesn’t want to blow the whole system up he just created, but instead be open to changing fundamental beliefs of those within the system.  He’s interested in playing devils advocate from an impartial place of fair principles.  If people do not agree with the ideas, they are left out.  This can lead to a fractionated group of those who agree and those do disagree.  While Saturn in Capricorn rewards loyalty, self-reliance, and dedication; Saturn in Aquarius rewards standing up for justice, serving the underdog, and self-sacrifice for the advancement of the whole.  While in Capricorn he shored up tradition, in Aquarius he looks to adapt those traditions to the present.

Look back to what happened in February 1991 through February 1994.  Themes of those years will come back for another overhaul.  Expect hard work and delicious earned rewards.  To help you, let me give you an idea how each sign will be asked to evolve.

Horoscopes:

Aries Rising:

The past three years has put a spotlight in your public persona and reputation sector.  You have built a name for yourself and have increased your personal capital in your circle. For the next three years you will be asked to share that knowledge and build bridges in the larger societal context.  Now is the time to build and evolve your network and friends.  You can be more successful and level up when you are connected.  There will be challenges in loyalty and ideologies, but you will find the group where you feel integrated.

Taurus Rising:

Since 2007 you have been earning your stripes behind the scenes.  Expanding your mind, seeking education, and finding mentors.  All of that prep work is now leading you to center stage.  Over the next few years you will be asked to take on more responsibility in a public way.  While you have cultivated your philosophies, you are now asked to live those values.  Being “out there” can feel intimidating and vulnerable.  All of that is natural.  But remember that you do have the qualifications and the preparation when you feel overwhelmed.  You are exactly where the universe wants you for leading your best life.

Gemini Rising:

Intense transformation has been the focus for you since 2017.  In many ways you have been more sensitive to taking on other’s piles of stress.  It’s been a process of establishing your boundaries and your values.  The past three years you have been sifting through what is your responsibility and where do others need to take ownership for their emotional baggage.  I like to call it:  “Is it my shit or is it your shit?  Cause all I know is this is shit.”  Yup, that’s where you’ve been.  Accountability is a lesson learned by both parties through one shared experience.  I’m happy to say that you have emerged from the fire and are ready to move on.  From now until 2023 you get the chance to integrate those lessons into your life philosophy.  Now is the time to dive into the larger meaning of your life, the soul connection to the universe, and share your wisdom with others.  This is a time to look to the collective and how you are learning and leading in the evolution of the whole.

Cancer Rising:

Relationship hell?  Oh yeah, you can write a book about that now.  Over the past few years you have had challenges with boundaries in your most intimate attachments.  For some walls went up and for others you wanted those relationships set in stone.  Think about how much clarity you gained about your self-worth, your boundaries, and your standards  since 2017.  Saturn has a way of making it or breaking it by the time his transit is done.  And now you are ready to move into a new phase.  Until 2023 you will be learning the lesson of accountability to yourself and to others.  For some it is about finances and what it takes to gain trust from larger institutions like banks or the government for others it is the life lessons of merging with another and the trust you need to give.  With Saturn in Aquarius you will be able to list out exactly what the tasks are in black and white to check the boxes of progress. Saturn’s job in this area is to look through the darker patterns of the psyche and discard what patterns are not working for you.  Introspection is your best tool over the next few years.

Leo Rising:

Your health and daily routine got a makeover over the past three years.  You put in the work to maximize your effectiveness at work and at home.  You had to learn you couldn’t have it all, so it was a matter of discerning what was essential.  Some made solid health goals and achieved them, others confronted the reality of growing older with more health complications.  Sometimes it felt like the hits just kept coming.  I’m happy to say you will not have to deal with this as intensely for another 28 years.  The focus will shift into the relationships of your life.  Over the next three years you have the opportunity to evaluate how you want relationships to look like in your life.  As you clarify your boundaries, you may find that what behavior from your lover was once tolerable is now impossible.  Standards get raised as you negotiate what is ideal and what is realistic.  With Aquarius you may be exploring what it means to preserve your self-identity and personal freedoms within a relationship.  Self-advocacy is a must through these next few years.

Virgo Rising:

Having Saturn in Capricorn since 2017 has asked you to redefine what brings you joy.  You have examined every nook and cranny to decide if you really enjoy an activity or are just doing it out of duty. It has been an emergence of some of your most creative work while Saturn dallied in your 5th house of pleasure.  Of all the signs you probably handled this transit better than most signs as you find Saturns nature of hard work to be rather enjoyable.  Rest assured you did a great job.  It is important to find what gives you joy because over the next few years Saturn will be asking you to integrate that into your daily routine.  Pleasure is such an essential part of being human and often we find scheduling time for ourselves gets neglected.  From now until 2023 your charge is to find balance in your daily routines and the consequence for neglecting this can be detrimental to your health.  Establish the healthy habits of prioritizing you.

Libra Rising:

Saturn in Capricorn toured your fourth house of home and ancestry over the past three years.  Some changed their relationships with their extended families while others changed residences altogether.  It had you examine family traditions and you got to decide thoughtfully what you wanted to continue and what you wanted to extinguish.  How you established your roots and your sanctuary were paramount themes.  For some it brought endings and others it brought new family members into your lives.  While Saturn made sure your roots were held tight, he is now ready to give you wings.  Saturn in the 5th house asks you to create.  In a fellow air sign, he is asking you to connect with others and share.  At first you may feel lost and directionless until you collaborate to mull over the possibilities.  Over the next three years it is an ideal time to give birth to a creative project that is close to your heart and brings you joy.  Expect revisions as the process evolves and remain fluid.  This could be one of the most creative and productive times of your life.

Scorpio Rising:

Saturn in Capricorn has been stirring the pot with issues of your neighborhood, your children’s education, and communication in general.  It’s almost like COVID happened and your world shrunk down to the smaller microcosm or something!  Literally, this is a fantastic literal translation of what could have manifested.  In this time you had to learn hard lessons about how you communicate and how you listen.  Sometimes we forget that half of getting the message across is just listening.  You worked on being understood and understanding others.  This is the very building block of relationships and some friends became as close as siblings to you.  Over the next three years Saturn is going to shift the focus into your home and family life.  It’s time to take the communication lessons your learned and put them into practice with your family. Saturn will be asking to redefine your concept of family or where you put your roots.  It is a time to redefine what “sanctuary” means to you and how to co-create it.  Although Saturn is comfortable acting alone, he is doing this in an Air sign that demands cooperation.  Find that balance of me time and social time.  Both have equal importance.

Sagittarius Rising:

Your finances probably have a lot more structure now than they did back in 2017.  Thanks to the task master touring your second house you were called on the carpet about what the stark reality was about your wealth.  It was a time to define boundaries and even impose hard limits on your spending.  There is a difference between being rich:  those who have expendable income; and those who are wealthy:  those who have investments.  It was also a life lesson to learn about how your self-worth doesn’t have to be tied to the number in you bank account.  For the next three years Saturn is ready to remodel your communication and commerce.  He is going to be invested in how you find the value in others and where you invest your time and energy.  How do you connect with others?  Do you listen more than you talk?  Where are you expending your energy.  Your sign has a tendency to believe yourself the more you talk and what gets neglected is the active listening.  Saturn in Aquarius will challenge you to see other’s points of view and realize that at times you can be the largest limitation in deepening relationships.

Capricorn Rising:

Since 2017 you have revolutionized everything from your self-image to your health, to how you want to be seen.  It has asked for no less than a complete overhaul of your mind, body, and soul.  Saturn asked you to invest in yourself.  I’ve seen individuals change their names, their genders, their occupations, and their bodies.  But they have all become a lot more confident and happy with who they are.  Once you got the basics down, it is now time to put your energy into what sustains you.  Saturn in Aquarius is moving into your second house providing a spotlight on how you nurture yourself and the funds it requires.  The way you bring in money and keep it will be examined.  It’s not about where you are, but where you want to be in Aquarius.  Find that ideal and systematically isolate what is working and what isn’t.  Saturn is here to build legacy and wants you to understand how things are interconnected.  How your present yourself is your confidence which leads to self-value and that will reflect in the money you bring in and keep.  Saturn likes accountability and self-reliance so watch as this develops in your financial health through 2023.

Aquarius Rising:

The past three years felt like they were a little lost.  Saturn finds his joy in the 12th house because he can do Saturn things:  reflect, isolate, gain perspective on the passing of time, learn self-reliance.  Even downtime can be useful.  You emerge with a greater sense of what grounded you and what were essentials in your life.  From now until 2023 your ruling planet is in his sign and is ready to get to work on you.  This is a time of revolution of self.  Everything from your image to your health is on the table.  Saturn in Aquarius is through as he picks and chooses the input he wants to integrate.  Look at all the possibilities and where you might want to fit into the larger whole.  Life is like an experiment and you get to evolve.  The greater you understand yourself, the greater you understand everyone.

Pisces Rising:

While the world was feeling a bit alone this past year, you were seeing how universal that isolation was.  I love Pisces ability to reframe things and this has been your talent while Saturn toured Capricorn over the past 3 years.  You’ve found your niche of people and weeded out who wasn’t supporting your best self.  Cutting the dead social wood, so to speak.  And that took a lot of courage.  Now that you have paired down to the essentials to other like minded people, you have your team.  This is perfect timing for you to know who has your back as you retreat into the subconscious.  You will need them as a counterbalance as you begin to dream of worlds that don’t exist…yet. :). From now until 2023 you will master the quiet moments and ask, “What could be?  Why or Why Not?”  Pisces idealism blends perfectly into Saturn in Aquarius.  While others are testing the waters of evolution, you are quietly building momentum.  You will observe moments that make you feel vulnerable and moments that will empower, but you will now learn how to learn that you are safe and grounded.  Because, I’m going to tell you a secret:  come 2023 your optimism and collective vision will guide us forward as you take center stage.
