September 2025 Astrological Forecast

Precise Productivity: Mercury in Virgo

For about 2 weeks, from September 2nd through September 18th, Mercury will be in prime shape as he travels through Virgo.  This is the sign where he is not only the ruler, but it is also the sign of his exaltation.  In Virgo, buzzing Mercury can sort through information and details at a rapid pace.  This is mutable earth at its finest.  While his process isn’t always neat, it is effective and efficient. If one way isn’t working, the mind will adapt and look at things from a different perspective.  This isn’t an air Mercury, who likes looking at theories and possibilities; this is an earth Mercury who wants to know their solutions are achievable and observe the results.

Capitalize on this transit by updating outdated systems, sorting through paperwork, or refining routines.  This is the satisfaction you get from ticking off “to-do” lists or finding a pen you really love.  It’s also a great time to focus on meal plans, exercise routines, or daily habits related to health and wellness.  Mercury in Virgo excels at precise and practical communication.  Pencil in your writing and editing tasks or even organize your digital clutter.

Because Mercury is clipping along in the sky around its cazimi date on September 13th, there won’t be much time to waste.  Grasp the moments of clarity when you get them and literally let every second count.

Changing Currents: Uranus Retrograde in Gemini

Uranus will make its first station in Gemini on September 5th.  Uranus spends about 7 years in a sign, but this first station can bring a unique glimpse of the central plot crisis he will work through until 2033.

Uranus is the planet that is the rebel in the solar system.  Because it is an outer planet, Uranus deals with more cultural issues that society grapples with, as opposed to a personal planet, which can be felt on an individual level. On the days that any planet stations, there is an intensification of energy, and the significance of that planet feels dominant for a few days.  Although Uranus doesn’t have any sign rulership in traditional astrology, it is still a very important planet. Richard Tarnas describes it as the archetype of the awakener.  Uranus shows how creativity can lead to breakthroughs, liberation can spark individuality, and innovation can bring authenticity.  In your personal charts, where Uranus resides shows where you like to break the rules and follow the beat of your own drummer.

Uranus will station at 01° Gemini on Friday.  This first station is like a breaking point where the planet halts and pivots in its march forward. Abu Ma’shar, a 9th-century astrologer, noted that the planet’s first retrograde station in a new sign can show the start of challenges in that sign’s domains. With Gemini, this can bring a weakening or destabilizing around topics of sharing information, news sources, social connection, transportation, alliances, technology, education, and versatility.  The rest of Uranus’s transit through Gemini over the next 7 years will explore experimentation and problem-solving with these topics.

On a personal level, approach September 5th with flexibility.  Be ready to adapt your communication methods, have alternative technology on hand, and adopt a good sense of humor.  A healthy dose of skepticism or curiosity could also get you out of personalizing any bumps in the road Friday may bring.

Service + Surrender: The Virgo/Pisces Eclipses of September

Eclipse season is upon us yet again with a lunar eclipse on September 7th and a solar eclipse on September 21th. Although this sounds a bit ominous, let’s get through a quick primer in eclipses so you can work with the energy:

  1. The lunar nodes govern eclipse season, which occurs twice a year, six months apart.
  2. A total eclipse has greater power than a partial eclipse.
  3. Lunar eclipses herald endings, while solar eclipses bring beginnings.  Some ancient astrologers, like Valens, gave more weight to solar eclipses than lunar eclipses.  But also realize ancient astrologers were often employed by the court, who wanted to know more about political events, battles, or changes of leadership.
  4. Those who live along the eclipse path will feel it more.
  5. If you have a personal planet conjunct or square the eclipse, you will feel it more.
  6. If your Lord of the Year is the Sun or Moon, you will feel it more.  This is when it is good to know how your year ahead will play out with a consultation.
  7. Eclipses repeat every 18 years.  So, for example, if 2007 was a big year for you, the eclipses of September 2025 may bring an echo of similar themes.

Eclipses bring bigger bookends to chapters of change in your life, and they will highlight the axis topics for about 18 months.  Currently, the nodes are in the Virgo/Pisces axis, which focuses on service and surrender.  Notice what truly supports your highest purpose.  If something no longer serves you, let it go and make room for what aligns with your growth.

Lunar eclipses bring endings. Think of it like a full moon on steroids. There is a greater awareness that change is in the air, and it can stir up all the emotions that come with it. A solar eclipse is like a supercharged new moon where you can sense the dawning of something greater, but you may not yet know the direction it will take.

On September 7th, we have a total lunar eclipse at 15° Pisces, visible across parts of Asia and Western Australia. This eclipse emphasizes Piscean themes of surrender, release, and dissolution. If you have planets near 15° of Pisces, Virgo, Gemini, or Sagittarius, the impact may feel especially personal. Jupiter in Cancer rules this lunation.  With so much water, you will want to let your feelings guide you.  Homesickness or longing for family can be a theme with this one.

Two weeks later, on September 21th, a partial solar eclipse at 29° Virgo will be visible in New Zealand. This is a threshold moment at the final degree of Virgo, highlighting themes of discernment and the reordering of daily routines. This eclipse opposes Saturn, so there will be a heaviness to this new moon eclipse beginning.  You may be more aware of time passing, increased responsibilities, or even the passing of the torch between generations. Even if you cannot yet see where this is heading, trust that the seeds planted now will reveal their purpose in time.  You’ve got to let things unfold a bit.

In ancient astrology, eclipses were considered malefic, and it’s easy to see why. Watching one luminary darken or disappear in the sky without explanation would have been frightening. Court astrologers often linked eclipses to shifts in power, wars, or significant events that affected the kingdom. Even today, eclipses carry a sense of magnitude. They are not ordinary lunations but turning points that echo for months to come.

Eclipse days are best approached with stillness. Do not force new beginnings or try to push forward. Instead, rest, cleanse, and give yourself space to recharge. The work is to step back and allow the changes to unfold rather than trying to control them.

Dates of Note:

September 2:  Mercury ingresses into Virgo.  The planet of communication and thinking moves into his home and exaltation sign of mutable earth.  You may find that projects break themselves easily into tasks over the next two weeks.  This is a golden time for editing, organization, and practical problem-solving.

September 3:  Mercury squares Uranus. Expect sudden insights or disruptions to plans. This aspect can bring flashes of brilliance or restless thinking. Try to remain flexible with your schedule today and keep a pen handy to write down any ideas. What feels inconvenient may spark a fresh perspective.

September 4:  Mars squares Jupiter.  Ambition and drive take the focus today, but be careful of taking on too much at once.  Take on what motivates you emotionally, but pace yourself to avoid burnout.

September 5:  Uranus stations retrograde in Gemini.  The planet of innovation makes its first pause in the sign of the twins today.  In Gemini, you may feel like there are only two choices today.  Pause for a second and figure out a third option.  Try not to jump to conclusions as you gather information and instead bring curiosity to the table. Technology could have some bumps today as well.

September 7:  Total Lunar Eclipse in Pisces. As a lunar eclipse, this full moon signifies an emotional ending of sorts.  An old situation might fade, or you could build a sense of belonging with a new community.  Jupiter in Cancer rules this lunation, which sends a message about family, children, or even emotional bonding.   Homesickness, longing for the past, or feelings like you are giving up your nurturing role can take hold today. This is an emotional time that is letting you develop your responsibilities, heartfelt boundaries, and find new footing.

September 11:  Mercury conjoins the South Node.  Today is a good day to give up any bad habits you may have.  Old scripts might have maintained your emotional safety, but even they have expiration dates.  With the Moon in Taurus and Mercury on the South Node, you may have some new awareness of how old coping mechanisms aren’t working.

September 12:  Sun sextiles Jupiter + Mercury sextiles Jupiter.  Optimism and expansion rule the day.  This is the time to adopt new ways of building resilience, working with teachers, or new ways to shine. Self-confidence is sky-high today when learning new skills.

September 13:  Mercury cazimi the Sun.  When the planet of communication has the ear of the king in Virgo, clarity pierces through any confusion.  This is a fantastic day to make room for important discussions, make headway with health issues, or tackle any daunting writing tasks you’ve been putting off.  Friends and allies will be there to help you problem-solve.

September 15:  Venus sextiles Mars.  Today brings a playful banter between desire and action.  With so many inner planets at 25°, if you have important placements at that degree in any sign, you may feel like your popularity skyrockets as the golden child of the zodiac. Use the day to make inroads with the in-crowd as banter will be light and the jokes will land.  Your charm and ability to share the spotlight will not go unnoticed.

September 17:  Mercury opposes Saturn.  Disciplined patience is going to be the theme of the day.  It might be time to get realistic about your expectations. The feedback you receive today may not be kind, but even criticism exists to help you grow.  The opposite of caring isn’t criticism, but apathy.  With the Moon approaching a conjunction with Jupiter, know you aren’t alone and look for ways to cultivate support.

September 18:  Mercury ingresses into Libra + Mercury opposes Neptune + Mercury trines Uranus.  There may be a noticeable shift in messaging today, as Mercury becomes more diplomatic and seeks to build upon shared goals.  Plans feel lofty and not as defined in the brainstorming phase, but it’s a good day to let possibilities rule.  Give space for the unrealistic ideas to fly as they may lead to innovation down the road.

September 19:  Venus ingresses into Virgo + Mercury trines Pluto.  The planet of relationships moves into practical earth today.  Acts of service can feel like love letters when Venus moves through Virgo.  Bonding can take place through shared tasks.  Over the next five weeks, it’s a time to evaluate how you emotionally fit in with your friends.   With Mercury opposing Pluto, make time for deeper conversations and insightful truths.  Being vulnerable with someone can bring you closer together.

September 20:  Venus squares Uranus.  It’s okay to give space in relationships.  Freedom can be a louder cry than stability under this transit.  Let your individuality shine today and embrace change.

September 21:  Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo + Sun opposes Saturn. Today’s energy invites you to release self-defeating habits and begin a new chapter. With Mercury in Libra ruling the eclipse, it’s a good time to examine attachments and consider where you want to restore balance. Be aware of potential blind spots with your resources (both time and money). Discern where decisions may have been made impulsively, especially around small luxuries, and return to discipline. Lifestyle creep can be a real thing. Bernadette Brady notes that eclipses in this saros series can highlight long-term concerns for a loved one, possibly bringing news related to health or responsibilities that require attention.

September 22/Autumn Equinox:  Mars ingresses into Scorpio + Sun ingresses into Libra.  Two big shifts happen today as the planet of action moves into his home sign and the Sun moves into the sign of his fall.  Your motivation may be laser focused while you yield your desires to the group’s momentum.  The light is in equal balance today between day and night.

September 23:  Sun opposes Neptune + Sun trines Uranus.  Feeling a little lost, try something new for inspiration.  Use innovation to clear the decks and shake up your perspective.

September 24/Rosh Hashanah:  Sun trines Pluto + Mars squares Pluto.  Like an itch you want to scratch, Pluto may ask you not to shy away from the tough subjects today. Rely on your instincts and courageously ask questions to shift the group.  Your curiosity may cause some friction as you figure out who has the power versus the influence.  The political landscape differs greatly from what it was in back in August, and power grabs are possible.

September 25:  Mercury, Venus, and Mars all in their own terms + Moon trine Jupiter.  With three of the personal planets in their protected places, there is clarity in action, desire and intellect today.  Confidence also enters the chat as the Scorpio Moon trines Jupiter in the morning.  This is a day of coordinating efforts with others for a common purpose.

September 27:  Moon squares Venus.  Today may bring some disagreements about spending priorities.  Negotiate practicalities and lofty ideals.  There is common ground when navigating the short-term pain for long-term goals.  The smaller efforts really add up.
