Astrology of the 2020 Election Predictions

I’ve spent the past month scouring various astrologers predictions for their take on the elections.  One entire day of ISAR’s conference was dedicated to the mundane astrologers interpretation.  Participants had one job: evaluate the conditions for the US Election in 2020.  It’s a thorny subject for certain.  A good mundane astrologer has to work hard to keep a blank slate as they look at the data without letting their own beliefs and viewpoints cloud predictions.

Many very good astrologers were left holding an empty bag in 2016.  It was a hard one to come back from.  It is oh so tempting to be that guru and all knowing person, especially when the spotlight is on.  But it’s also damn scary when you are forced to pick a side in front of an audience.  With an election, it’s a 50/50 shot.

A good astrologer will delineate out the meanings of what is possible or even probable, but will not tell you what the outcome will be.  Astrology is not deterministic, as everyone has free will, but it describes what are the likely conditions in which decisions get made.  For example, I can see if someone is going to have a year that has emphasizes his home,  but I will not tell a pauper he’s moving into a castle.  The person’s circumstances and environment are critical.

To help my readers, I’ve completed a summary of my time at ISAR with J.Lee Lehman, Lynn Bell, Caroline Casey, and Christeen Skinner.  All of these individuals are incredible mundane astrologers. I’ve also included notes from my mentor, Kelly Surtees, who was the opening speaker for Astrology University’s summit last week.  They all used a variety of lenses by looking at the planetary cycles, the election day chart, the inauguration chart, and how each of the candidate’s birth charts interact.  Spoiler alert: no one made a prediction on who the winner would be; everyone described the factors and energy at play.

Factors for the Election on November

Impending Pluto Return for the USA

Everyone agreed that whoever holds power for the next term is in for one doozy of a ride.  This is because the US is in the beginning of its Pluto return.  This is when Pluto comes back to its exact same place it occupied when it was born.  We mere mortals will never know what it’s like to experience this in our lifetime, as it only happens every 248 years. So we look to countries and see how they ride the waves.  For the US, our Pluto return will hit at 27 Capricorn from February 2022 to October 2023 when it goes direct.  Every astrologer agreed that whoever holds the job of presidency will have one difficult job over the next few years holding things together as the nation redefines itself.  Although Pluto is only about half the size of our moon, it lands a big punch. You can not go through a Pluto transit and expect to be the same person on the other side. It is a time of renewal and rebirth.

Saturn/Pluto squaring Mars

When you have the two malefic planets challenging each other, it can be game of, “I dare you”.  Everyone is testing the boundaries.  Saturn will reign supreme here and people will vote out of fear vs. hope.  Transiting Saturn is also sitting on the United States natal Pluto.  Clinging to the past is a big theme. Tradition, safety, patriotism, and leadership are challenged.

Mercury Stationing Direct on Election Day

Bottom line:  don’t expect the results on election day.  Mercury will be at a standstill, ready to move direct after 3 weeks of retrograde.  The planet’s energy intensifies anytime it changes direction.  The last time we had Mercury stationing on an election day was 2000.  If you remember, that was the epic Bush v. Gore.  “Hanging chad” became part of our daily conversation and it finally went to the Supreme Court.  Every astrologer agreed that confusion would reign supreme.  I wouldn’t count on knowing the victor that night.  The emotional hangover will hit the next day as the moon moves into Cancer.  Cancer is the sign that rules the home, homeland, and patriotism.  We begin to feel the aftermath of the vote and make meaning of it.

Mars in Retrograde

Mars will finally turn direct on November 13th.  In a recent Astrology Podcast, Austin Coppock mentioned that it doesn’t change the fact that we have a war, but the war will move forward.  The legal battles may intensify.

Uranus moving from Taurus to Gemini

During the next four years, Uranus our planet of change is riding through the Taurus, sign of values.  It’s job right now is asking, “Are we living our values, and if not, what changes can we make?”  We can see this as police reform hits a peak and the political parties become entrenched in what exists vs. what could be.  Everyone is grasping to keep things status quo and remember a time when America was considered “great”.  Either way, that is looking to the past for cues.  This is a key signature for any earth stronghold.  Earth signs like Taurus and Capricorn build on existing success which requires us to examine the past.  Both are very resource driven.  However, as Uranus shifts into the Air of Gemini in 2026, our adaptability gets tapped and we can see all the possibilities.  Uranus in Gemini is a bit rogue and hungry for options.  It is a giant social experiment.

Kamala Harris

She is one to watch.  Regardless of how the election shakes out, her star is bright and on the rise. Leadership and visibility are key for her.

Timing and My Take

Going against my own advice, I’m going to apply my political science here and see what lines up with the astrology.  Keep in mind I am not a mundane astrologer so please take it with a grain of salt. I too do not have a solid prediction for who the winner will be, but I can lay out the stages of unfolding.

Lunar Eclipse:  November 30th

Lunar eclipses bring about endings. Emotions are going to be high today, but I wouldn’t expect resolution.  Emotional fatigue is going to be setting in.  I think we will all be feeling like the events put into motion are taking on a life of their own.  Personal power will feel diminished.

Solar Eclipse:  December 14th

I will own my bias and say I think this is the day to watch for the election to be decided.  Astrology aside, the law requires electors to be chosen for the Electoral College, the constitutionally established body that elects the president, no more than 41 days after Election Day. This year, that date is December 14, which is exactly 41 days after the November 3 vote.  Solar eclipses bring about a start of a new chapter in a dramatic new way.

I will say that a big factor will be the electoral college.  On July 6, 2020 (one day after the lunar eclipse in Capricorn), the Supreme Court upheld that faithless electoral college voters could be penalized by the States.  This means that if an individual went against the popular vote, the State could impose justice against that person.  The eclipse in this series (4 North) is all about restricting the individual and blocking their overestimation of power.  Wait to see if there are faithless electors and how the States exercise their power.

Mars Entering Taurus:  January 6th

The electoral college votes are due to Congress the following day.  All through the 2020 election season Mars has been in Aries which set up a big battle between the Cardinal pile up of Saturn, Pluto, and Jupiter.  This is the day the planet of war will leave the sign based battle.  The fight feels over.

In Summary

Astrology definitely has it’s limitations. It primarily is a study of timing. While it is extremely tempting to be the all knowing guru and predict the winner, it is a fool’s errand. Instead one has to look at the circumstances of the planetary energy, which is exactly what I did. I looked at the practical key dates of the election process and lined up the timing to describe what is possible. Caroline Casey summed it up beautifully at the ISAR summit when she said, “What is available, of which we can participate with, is a better question than who will win.”

Moon Phases and Personality

Most people are aware they have a sun and moon sign, but did you know you also have a moon phase?  The phase of the moon has a large influence on your natural talents with problem solving and how you approach life.  As the moon’s light changes through the month, the snapshot of what the moon looked like at your birth was captured in your natal chart.

New Moon

The Moon begins her journey at a new moon where the sky is dark and her brilliance is nowhere in sight. With her luminance hidden, she is on the brink of starting something new. There is no light to show her the path forward and so she must rely on instincts and gut feeling.  Seeds are planted and hope takes hold.  Often people born under this phase are early adopters into change and learn to take risks knowing they can shift their direction once the path is illuminated.  Decisions are made quickly without a lot of information; its almost like they have a 6th sense as to what will work well.  If your moon is 0 – 45 degrees ahead of your sun, this is your phase.

Waxing Crescent

Once the moon peeks out from the Earth’s shadow, a small silvery crescent begins to show in the night sky.  During this phase the seeds are already in the ground, but we do not know what the sprouts will look like.  Will the seeds of change take hold or will they fail?  This is the time of blind nurturing.  As an individual, manifestation has started to take hold.  You hold space for the promise of what is to come and begin to show small signs of the changes taking place under the surface.  These individuals hold their cards close to their chest and not ready to show off what they are developing.  This is the phase where the creativity is blooming under the surface. If your moon is between 45 – 90 degrees ahead of your sun, you are in the waxing crescent phase.

First Quarter Moon

At the first quarter moon, the sprouts have pushed through the ground and action is taking place.  We know which seed took hold, but we can’t decipher the individual plant.  They are tender, but  strong in their root structure.  This is the ego building phase where you begin to see the promise take shape and calculate the yield you will gather.  Here, we tend to the strongest of the seedlings as they are in their biggest growth phase of life.  Likewise, it’s time to weed out the seedlings that are too close, too weak, or are crowding out your prized ideas.  Your gift is knowing where to direct your energies and making choices.  You know your capabilities. If your moon is 90 – 135 degrees ahead of your sun, this is your lunar phase.

Gibbous Moon

Working with the gibbous moon, your confidence is at a all time high.  You know what you can deliver and the fruit is starting to bud on the fruit.  This is the time to have faith in your hard work, commit to the end product, and speak your convictions.  It’s time to tend the budding fruit of your efforts and not get distracted by the weeds cropping up.  Persistence and self-promotion is key for these individuals.  This phase is 135 – 180 degrees ahead of the sun.

Full Moon

At the full moon, harvest is at it’s peak and the light is at its brightest.  It’s not a time for new projects but a time to reap your reward.  This is the best it is going to get and its time to gather things in your prime.  Probably the hardest part of this phase is the timing to pick the fruit in it’s prime. While some want to rush forward and get the fruit when its too firm, others will wait until it gets mushy on the vine.  Individuals in this phase have a knack for timing and seizing the moment.  Decisions are weighed carefully.  If your moon is 180 – 135 degrees behind the sun, this is your phase.

Disseminating Moon

During the disseminating moon, the light is beginning to fade.  It is still light, but we know darkness will come.  We are taking stock of our achievements and are wondering where they can be put to best use.  Will these be better jam or eaten whole?  People born under this phase are always looking for ways to best maximize their gifts.  This is a time of evaluating resources and taking stock of how to best use your talents.  This is your phase if your Moon is 135 – 90 degrees behind the sun.

Third Quarter Moon

Under a third quarter moon, this has similar energy to the first quarter moon, but the light is fading.  Here we are refining our existing skills and playing “Monday morning quarterback” to see what we would change if we had to do it all over.  Any new ideas created are quickly related to the past and process improvement.  Individuals born under this influence have solid gifts in reviewing past courses and listing what they would do differently next time.  It is a time of passing our wisdom to the youth and is a very productive time.  This is when your gifts ferment and get stronger as they transform and blend their flavors. This is your phase if your moon is 90 – 45 degrees behind the sun.

Balsamic Moon

The balsamic moon is the last phase.  This is a time to tend the soil and let the ground rest.  Individuals born with this phase are security oriented and naturally reflective.  This is the time for releasing what didn’t work and self-care.  It can be a challenge as the empty nester has deafening quiet in the house, or the awards begin to gather dust.  You have been used to the hustle and bustle of previous cycles and are now dealing with the burden of clearing and sitting in the stillness.  People born with this phase are naturally gifted with patience and understand that exits always show hidden doors.  This is your phase if your moon is 45 – 0 degrees behind the sun.

You Can’t Always Get What You Want: Mars in Retrograde in Aries 2020

Mars typically spends about 6 – 8 weeks in a sign, but when it turns retrograde it camps out to fan its flames a lot longer.  Whereas we have the pleasure of experiencing Mercury retrograde three times a year, Mars only does his retrograde tap dance every two years.   In 2020 Mars is going to hang out in his home of Aries from June 27th – January 6th.

Holy Moly!!  Did you catch that?!?  I’m going to say it again:  193 days of Mars in Aries!!

If you don’t know where Aries falls in your birth chart, now would be the time to get acquainted. I imagine it going something like this:  Cue Frank Sinatra’s “I Do It My Way” as ambiance music.  “Self, meet the sign of the Ram.  I understand you like to set the rules, volunteer yourself as tribute.”  Expect some sort of grunt in acknowledgement.  “So, you are going to be reorganizing my house of family/career/relationships/money, etc for the next 4 months?  And in that time you will be changing the rules of how things get done?  Awesome.”  Then, remove all breakable things, put the trophies on display, and be wary of all sharp objects.

The last Mars retrograde was in 2018.  There, he flitted about between Capricorn and Aquarius.  What was different about this is he was doing his back and forth dance about 149 days (May 12, 2018 – October 8, 2018).  And the flavor was different as he danced between topics.  Different signs occupy different houses and thus highlight different areas of your life.  For me Mars was tripping back and forth between my 1st house of self image and my 2nd house of income.

But let’s compare apples with apples shall we?  In 2018 Mars hung out in his shadow periods and retrograde for about 149 days total.  In 2020 he is going to be hanging out in his shadow periods and retrograde for 161 days.  This does not include the total time he will be spending in Aries alone which adds up to 193 days.  Ladies and Gentleman, let me again redirect you to paragraph 3 where you introduce yourself to Aries.  This is not a drill.

So what does Mars retrograde really do?  It asks us to reassess our current projects, our desires, and how we get things done.  It makes us really question:  is this the best way to get what I want?  During Mars retrograde we see that planet’s energy get turned inward and internalized.  Mars at it’s worst is rage.  Rage directed at ourselves is really hard.  It can turn into depression, blaming ourselves, and resentment.  During the retrograde periods we second-guess ourselves, we appear indecisive, and we don’t trust our first instinct to act.  However Mars in retrograde at it’s best makes us courageous:  it dares us to do something different.  Just because we have always done things a certain way doesn’t mean it is the BEST way.  And Mars in Aries wants to be THE BEST.  It forces us to innovate and take a leap of faith.  During retrograde periods it gives us the grace to step out of what is normal for ourselves.   If you are that kid who waits to be called on, take the initiative and raise your hand.  If you are the one who waits for life to happen and then react, be the one who starts something new.  You get to learn how to RESPOND vs REACT.   Both are action-oriented, but the latter shows an evolved emotional wisdom.  The Universe has given you permission to experiment during this time.  During retrogrades, everything slows down a bit.  We aren’t as effective and our to-do list gets short circuited.  It is designed that way so we can do things better once the pace picks back up.  Is your anger really justified or is it a reflex that you’ve learned.

What is nice about this retrograde is that Mars is spending the whole time in his house.  He knows where his comfy chair is and his Netflix password is loaded up.  He doesn’t have to tiptoe around someone else’s domicile and learn their rules.  He can sit back and really be king of his castle, surrounded by his trophies and chugging Red Bull.  What is also nice about this period is that during Mars’s stay in Aries, he will be the sole planet in that part of the chart aside from the monthly visit from the Moon.  He doesn’t have to compete with anyone else for attention.

Another bonus of this Mars retrograde is that we just completed our Venus retrograde in June.  So while Venus retrograde really asks us what we want, the Mars retrograde asks if the way we are fulfilling our desires by the most effective means.  They go hand in hand.  Sometimes things don’t line up as well, but in 2020 it does.  The timeline is perfect.

Other ways retrogrades can manifest are old projects coming back from the past asking for completion.  This could be a work project, a home project, or even an old sexual partner trying to see if the sparks are still there.  If Aries is in your 7th house, you could have old fighting patterns resurface.  But the bonus is you get to figure out how to deal with them once and for all to have resolution.

Aries in your 1st:  Time to look at your anger.  How do you respond vs. react.  Watch the negative self-talk and reprogram yourself.

Aries in your 2nd:  It’s all about the Benjamins.  Do you go through money like wildfire?  It’s time to rework that financial system of yours.

Aries in your 3rd:  Are you assuming good intent when communicating?  Are you truly listening or just thinking of your next response when people are talking?

Aries in your 4th:  Expect some home renovations or dealing with your family members

Aries in your 5th:  Are your children getting enough attention or are they acting out?  It might be a good time to pick up an old hobby or sport you enjoyed in the past.

Aries in the 6th:  Individual work projects come back or its time to rework your health.

Aries in your 7th:  You know that fight that keeps occurring?  Its time to find resolution once and for all.

Aries in your 8th:  Are your debts asking for attention?  Time to work with the IRS for a plan moving forward.  It’s also a good time to revisit alimony or child support.

Aries in your 9th:  Are you really driven to go back to school or is it a “should”?  Maybe its time to find a new faith or church that supports your beliefs.

Aries in your 10th:  Maybe it’s time for you to take the helm at work or finally resolve the boss issues and stand up for yourself.  For some of you this means taking the initiative and stepping out on your own.

Aries in your 11th:  Are you stuck in a rut with your friends?  Maybe it’s time to branch out.

Aries in in your 12th:  Take stock of how you assert yourself.  Are you undermining yourself?  It’s time to find your healthy boundaries and say NO.

Leave me a note of what you are hoping Mars retrograde will help you in 2020.

A Personal Story with Medical Astrology

Medical astrology is a branch of the tradition which ancient physicians used routinely.  From the transits to your natal chart, physical history, and horary questions, the physicians would determine what kind of disease you had and would recommend treatments.

Even today, medical astrologers can give you windows into the world of your body’s constitution and how it might respond to interventions.  While the interventions have changed (blood letting for example vs. antibiotics), even today you can see how the stars will play into the situation and outcome.

Houses in Medical Astrology

Key placements to look are the rising sign and its ruler’s condition, the 6th house of health, the 8th house of death, the 10th house of intervention/treatment, and the 12th house of closed spaces (think hospitals).

Planets in Medical Astrology

Each planet rules different conditions.  If you are thinking specifically about surgery or inflammation, you look at Mars.  Problems with Venus can indicate issues with blood sugars.  Jupiter can indicate issues with excess such as obesity, liver, or cancer.  Leo or the Sun can suggest problems with the heart.  Neptune can indicate problems with the immune system, addictions, or misdiagnosis.  Uranus afflictions can show problems with sudden accidents or the nervous system.  Mercury shows up with speech issues, mental disorders or respiratory problems.  Saturn can show chronic issues or hardening diseases.  And Pluto can indicate massive infection, congenital issues, or even death.

Signs in Medical Astrology

And the signs rule different parts of the body.  For example, Libra governs your endocrine system and kidneys, while Scorpio rules your sexual health. Aries rules your head and brain.  Gemini will rule your arms, lungs, hands and nervous system. Virgo is your digestion. The feet are ruled by Pisces while the ankles are ruled by Aquarius. Taurus rules your throat. Leo rules your heart. Cancer rules your stomach and breasts. Sagittarius rules your legs and liver. This is not an exhaustive list, by any means.

My Personal Experience

My chart is no exception.

As a Capricorn rising, I am prone to issues with bones, joints, and teeth.  Capricorn risings can indicate younger people with older people problems.  Mars is in my 6th house of health in Gemini.  Knowing that Gemini is a mutable sign, this would suggest that my problems show up and then go away for awhile.  Saturn, the ruler of Capricorn, is in its detriment in Cancer, but is dignified by its term.  It’s not a surprise that I have had a lot of surgeries on my knees and spine.

I am going in for bi-lateral knee replacements tomorrow so my medical astrology has been at the forefront of my mind. It’s rare for a 44 year old to be getting this surgery so young, but I’ve literally exhausted all treatment options from intensive PT to various injections.  I’ve had this booked since October 2019.

It’s important that you seek experts in the field when getting information.  I am not a medical astrologer, so I booked a consult with Jane Ridder-Patrick out of the UK for more insight.  Every practitioner is different and I first learned of her when I attended the United Astrological Conference in 2018.

I gave her a detailed medical history with all of my surgical dates and wondered if there were common threads to the interventions.  Indeed there were:  Saturn or another outer planet was usually making an aspect to my cardinal cross planets every time I had an issue.

Tomorrow is no different.  My Saturn opposition is almost exact, Mercury will be moving into Pisces minutes before my surgery will take place opposing my Sun/Moon by sign, and the Moon moves into Capricorn simultaneously.

It’s not ideal.  One of the first rules of surgery election dates is to not undergo an operation when the moon is VOC or in the same or opposite sign of the body part that will be cut.  This goes back to Hippocrates, the founder of modern medicine.

“Touch not with iron that part of the body rule by the sign the moon is transiting” – Hippocrates (460 BC)

Like I said, this isn’t ideal.  But in modern medicine you also need to be practical.  I didn’t really get much say in my surgery date which is typical of medicine in the USA.  Also, with the COVID-19 influx, I am actually surprised it hasn’t been canceled yet.  However, I check in daily and they assure me it is still on.

One of my friends is an Infectious Disease doctor who actually recommended I get this procedure done as the first wave of COVID-19 hasn’t fully hit and my husband (a palliative care doctor) will be at home on FMLA and not on service with all of the sick patients.  With my kids now out of school as well, we are essentially on quarantine which is the best thing for my recovery.

Am I worried?  Yes.  I’d be a fool not to be regardless of where the Moon was.

Have you had any experiences with medical astrology? I’d love to know more about it in the comment section!

Wedding Elections 101

You just said YES to THE question and the ring is sparkling on your hand.  But before the blush has worn off the happy couple the next question lands:  When? Before you start the constant decision making process of gowns, reception halls, guest lists, and flowers have you paused and looked up?  To the sky that is.  Welcome to Wedding Elections 101.

Picking out wedding date is like picking out the birthday for your marriage.  By taking the stars into account, you can see how your union will support desires for kids, your careers, and your individuality all at the same time.  What counts the most is when you say your vows.  Go ahead and plan your rustic autumn reception in the barn or the tropical destination celebration on the beach, but even more importantly, choose the day you will solidify your marriage.

Why Astrology?

The sky can give an amazing viewpoint of where your struggles will be in your marriage as well as your points of ease.  It can set the stage for prosperity, happiness, and give you insights as to what areas might be sources of tension.  Also know there may not be an absolute PERFECT day, but it’s a matter of picking out what is optimal for you and working with what you have.

What’s even better is you can do this yourself by following a few cardinal rules.  If you have the time, get a calendar and head to www.astro.com to start looking for days.

The Basics:

Venus

This planet represents the marriage itself.  Whatever you do, make sure Venus is not in Retrograde!  This is a must.  On average, Venus retrogrades for about 6 weeks every 18 months.  When Venus is in retrograde, you are adding a level of complication you don’t have to have.  It may mean there could be additional tests to your union.  You could be setting up energy where you need to restore or rework the union in the future.  Is it completely unworkable?  No, but if you can avoid it, do.

Take a big red pen and cross off all the days when Venus is in retrograde.  For 2020 those days are May 13 – June 25.  Venus will be direct in 2021 and 2022.

A happy Venus is your foundation.  She truly characterizes the whole marriage.  For the strongest placements, look for times when Venus is in Taurus, Pisces, and Libra.  Try to avoid Venus in Aries (more of an independent marriage or quick flight of fancy), Venus in Virgo (a bit nit-picky at times), or Venus in Scorpio (intense).  Let her shine by being supportive and loving.

Venus in Taurus:  March 4, 2020 – March 20, 2020

Venus in Libra:  October 27, 2020 – November 20, 2020. (However remember Mars will be in retrograde until November 14, 2020…more on this in a second).

As a bonus, to ensure kind words and supportive emotions, try to make sure Venus is in a trine, sextile, or conjunction to Mercury or the Moon.  All of these works well.

Mars

For 2020, Mars will also be in retrograde from September 9, 2020 – November 14, 2020.  If at all possible, try to avoid getting married during these dates.  Mars retrograde has a tendency to  asks us to doubt our actions.  This could be as simple as someone having cold feet or setting the stage for someone constantly questioning if marrying was the best decision.

Saturn

Many people fear Saturn, but he’s really a help in a wedding chart.  This planet governs tradition and time endurance.  It’s wonderful to have a a Moon, Sun, Venus, or the planet that rules the chart in a sextile or trine to the planet that rules time itself.  You are just adding that foundation to the house of your marriage.  On another note, please avoid Sun square Saturn. This makes it so hard to grow together as a couple.  With this aspect, you are begging for frustration as the individuals are fighting to identify themselves in the marriage.

Days to Avoid:  April 19, 2020 –  May 20, 2020

September 22, 2020 – October 22, 2020.

Sun and Moon

One of the cardinal rules of wedding date selection is to make sure the Sun and Moon are in a supportive aspect to one another.  The Sun and Moon represent you and your partner and you want to make sure that relationship is a friendly one as the years progress.  Aim for either a trine (120 degrees) or a sextile (60 degrees) between these two planets.  This will ensure you two will be sitting together sipping pina coladas on a cruise ship in retirement or rocking on the front porch watching a sunset.

Many brides envision themselves saying their vows on a beach at sunset or during a full moon.  While this sounds wonderful, the symbolism screams NO!  During full moons, the Sun and Moon are opposing one another which really sets up a dynamic of making choices me vs. you throughout the marriage.

Sunsets

And as for riding off into the sunset? A wedding at sunset really does indicate that it’s going to take some work to get one of you fully into the marriage.  At sunset, the Sun is merging into the horizon and moving into the 6th house of work.  One of you won’t be fully present in the marriage by either yielding all of their personality into the marriage or escaping into work.  A marriage is about two people coming together to celebrate their individuality and active choice to be in the union.  Go ahead and make the wedding celebration and reception on the beach at sunset, but get thee to a courthouse beforehand to solidify your legal vows.

Eclipses

Likewise, avoid eclipse dates.  This just sets up an intensity that you don’t need in your marriage.  Generally speaking, eclipses always symbolize endings. I would definitely pick a new moon over a full moon any day.  Ideally, you would want a moon that is building from the new moon up to the full moon (waxing).  This symbolizes the ability to grow together.

Ideal signs for the moon:  Taurus or Cancer.  The moon are in each of these signs once a month.

Mercury Retrogrades

If you can, try to avoid Mercury retrogrades.  I’ve had others get married with it in retrograde and something went wrong.  The officiant was late, the paperwork wasn’t right, travel was affected, and so forth.  With one wedding, the busses never showed up to take the guests to the church.  Imagine feeling stood up by your whole congregation!  It’s not the end of the world, but it will test your sense of humor.

Mercury Retrograde in 2020:  February 16 – March 9

June 18 – July 12

October 13 – November 3

Venus and Mars

These two planets are the indicators for you physical intimacy.  For a spicy sex life, Venus trine or sextile Mars is a great aspect to have in a wedding chart.  But make sure these two planets are not in a square (90 degrees) or opposition (180 degrees).  You will find with difficult aspects, “Sorry, not tonight, I have a headache,” could be a common phrase.

A word to longevity:  sparks do fade over time and that is ok.  This is why it’s important to lean into the Sun/Moon aspect.

Timing of the Day

So now that you’ve picked your date, it’s time to time the chart by the hour.  Avoid placing the Sun, Moon, or Venus in the 6th or 12th house.  An easy way to eliminate the Sun being in the 6th or 12th is to really avoid two hours right after sunrise or sunset.  There are some faith traditions that prefer weddings at sunset.

Try to get the ruler of the Ascendant in the 7th house if possible.

Try to get the Moon in the 7th, 10th, 4th, or 1st house.

Word to the Wise

Wedding elections aren’t the end of the world!  What matters the most is that you found the person you want to spend the rest of your life with.  Every marriage has ups and downs and wedding elections just give you an extra boost to your foundation.  My parents didn’t use astrology to get married and they’ve been together for 46 years!  You can totally see where their sticky points are in the chart, but they have made it work well.

Also know that 2020 is a rough one to pick out optimal dates for even seasoned astrologers so don’t pull your hair out too much.

Pushing the Collective Forward: Saturn in Aquarius

Are you ready for a new dawn?  It’s coming as Saturn enters Aquarius on March 30, 2020.  While in the sign of the sea-goat Saturn set the stage by having us take inventory of what is working vs. what is tradition.   But in Aquarius, he is ready to take on the status quo and redefine our boundaries.  Saturn in this sign tolerates loneliness, but fears abandonment.  He can be consumed by the idea of reform.  He likes learning the limits so that he cannot push beyond them.

Important Dates

Saturn in Aquarius – March 21st, 2020 – July 1st, 2020 (approximately 3.75 months)

Saturn in Capricorn – July 1st – December 17, 2020 (6 months)

Saturn in Aquarius – December 17, 2020 – March 7, 2023 (2.25 YEARS)

On average, Saturn spends about 2 – 2.5 years in each sign and it takes about 28 years for him to journey through the zodiac.

As you can see this initial pass of Saturn in Aquarius is a 15 week preview.  As Saturn retrogrades for about 6 months every year, this will be fleeting and it will return to Capricorn on July 1st.  Pay attention to what themes arise as it will give us a sneak peek of what will characterize December 2020 – March 2023.

Saturn’s Nature

Aquarius is ruled by Saturn just like Capricorn,  but the planet asks very different things in each sign.  Saturn is the planet that rules boundaries and norms.  He is like father time and the task master of hard lessons.  Here he asks us to be present with the discomfort and do the work.  He gets rid of things that are no longer working for us and by the end of this transit, we will be more self-reliant.  For those with a night birth chart, this is the hardest planet in your chart.  Often Saturn transits will bring endings, but also increased self-reliance.

Historical Perspective

The past three years have asked us to question our authority figures, our government, and the society structure that have existed.  With this we saw the Me Too movement remove men from the patriarchal stance of sexuality contingent on career advancement.  We also watched the presidency change tones dramatically with an impeachment trial.  He gets upset with entitled authority vs. leadership that is earned for its own merit.

The last time Saturn was in Aquarius was 1991 – 1993.  In 1991 Ross Perot launched his independent run for President.  His roots were in the technology industry (largely influenced by Aquarius) before politics.  Ultimately, it was a failed run, but it was largely influential.  Also during Saturn’s last tour, trade sanctions lifted between the US and China, General Noriega was finally convicted of drug charges in America, and NAFTA was signed.  By 1992, the Cold War was declared officially over.  The boundaries between Nations were renegotiated and their changes endured until recently.  It was also the height of the grunge scene where most youth cued their self-identity from not fitting in.  Ironically, it created a populist movement where being on the fringe was mainstream.  At the tail end of Saturn’s tour, “www,” was released as a source code forever changing how we referenced information and the modern internet became mainstream.

Looking Forward

We can expect more growth in grassroots organizations striving for reform.  I anticipate we will see an uptick in groups dedicated to social justice and equality.  Aquarius also brings about an integration of technology.  I also hope to see advances in how we use technology in our daily work flow.  With Uranus in Taurus, this is prime time for innovations in food technology and even the way we get our groceries.  Perhaps brick and mortar grocery stores will become a dying breed.  There will be many failed experiments in this time, but there will also be successes that will endure.

Keep your eye on the December 2020 as the prize.  This initial push forward into Aquarius will feel a bit more difficult than what’s down the road.  This is because both Saturn and Mars are the malefic planets and they are moving together.  Fear and a call to action are in the mix for March.  Change can be scary.

However, in December 2020 we have a great conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn.  This energy will govern almost all of 2021.  This dynamic duo gives us the inspiration and trusting our instincts to move forward and create something substantive.  It is the embodiment of Obama’s chant, “Yes We Can!”  2021 brings us the promise taking this spirit and making it reality.  This is where the hope lies.

Viva La Revolution!  What Can You Expect?

Depending on what house Aquarius occupies in your birth chart, you will feel an urge to reorganize and reform your standard operating procedure.  You may experience scarcity for part of this transit, but at the end you will experience increased self-reliance.  But at the finish line is a total empowerment of the collective.  And that, is a true goal.

Aries Rising:  Your call to action is in your friendships sector.  Examine who really has your back and is supporting your self-development vs. using your talents without anything in return.  Saturn will be sextiling your identity which will gives you self-discipline to create lasting results.

Taurus Rising:  Work is asking you to take on new responsibilities.  It’s time to level up.  Embrace your ability to challenge the status quo.  For some of you this may mean a complete change of career.  With Uranus and your Ascendant being in a square with Saturn, you might have some sudden changes or make a split decision to leave the security for pursuit of self-worth.

Gemini Rising:  You are getting asked to examine how you challenge the boundaries of your mind.  Are you thinking of returning to school or traveling extensively?  With your Ascendant trining Saturn, the gears are greased and ready to make your goals become reality.

Cancer Rising:  It’s time to restructure how you pay off the debts you owe or shared finances.  It’s time to examine your long term financial planning.  Some of you will be in the market for a new advisor all together.

Leo Rising: Your romantic partnerships are renegotiating the rules and boundaries within the relationship.  Perhaps more freedom is in order or responsibilities are getting shifted.  For some of you this means a complete ending if you cannot get your needs met.  With Saturn in opposition to your Ascendant, you are definitely feeling the push of Me vs. Them.  Choices will have to be made.

Virgo Rising:  Your daily routine is getting called on the carpet.  Do you need to structure in more time for exercise and health?  What you have been doing isn’t working anymore.  Expect breakthroughs and new habits.

Libra Rising:  Your children are questioning the status quo.  Expect them to be asking for more independence.  You also may have a new creative project that will blow away your expectations. As a whole, this transit will not feel as hard for you as it will for others and will feel like a break from 2017-2020.  Enjoy the process!

Scorpio Rising:  It may be time to refinance your home, move, or renovate.  As this sign likes to explore, you may find yourself moving to a completely new city.  This decision will be one not to take lightly as it will have lasting impact.  Your Ascendant will be in a square to Saturn indicating that you are making some tough decisions about if this is better for you or others.

Sagittarius Rising:  How are your relationships with your siblings?  Boundaries and obligations are redefined.  With your Ascendant sextiling Saturn, it is a great time to take on any intellectual discipline that needs concentration like learning a foreign language.  The rewards are there if you put in the work.

Capricorn Rising:  Your individual finances are under the microscope.  The way you earn money will experience a shift.  You may take on work or freelance.  These next few years will not be as revolutionary as 2017-2020 was for you. This is the time to consolidate.

Aquarius Rising:  You are being challenged to redefine yourself. It’s time to change how you take responsibility to rework your self-image, health, and independence.  The intrinsic evolution will almost feel like a compulsion.  These years will set the foundation.

Pisces Rising:  Are you your own self undoing?  If you are thinking of entering therapy this is a good time to do it.  These years might be a good time to prepare for how to become the best version of yourself starting 2023.

What are you looking forward to with Saturn in Aquarius?  Let me know in the comments!

I Want It Now: Mars in Childhood

Believe it or not, anger is a primary emotion and it has been programmed in us for thousands of years.  An angry baby gets the attention from their parents.  Frustration innately tells us we aren’t getting our needs met.  It cues us to do something different to protect ourselves.  Sometimes our anger is an outward projection of our fear.  Fear is the other emotion that has helped our survival as well.  Saturn at its core represents fear and how we protect ourselves.  Oddly enough Mars and Saturn are the two malefics of the chart.  However, they serve a vital role in ensuring our safety and survival.

Mars represents how we get what we want.  It is the planet that controls our drive, our action, and how we pursue our goals.  In a perfect world we could be able to sustain our push and focus.  However it can be a temperamental planet as well.  It also shows how we experience frustration when our efforts get interrupted.

Power Up! Parent Astro Power!!

Approximately every 2 years approximately the red planet returns to the exact place it was at birth.  You can anticipate a power struggle for independence at age when your child is 2, 4, 6, 8,10, and so on.  Sharing is not a talent for Mars, but instead it challenges your child to be assertive and go after to go after what they want.

Mars can be our secret weapon, but it can also be our undoing.  Knowing where your kiddo’s Mars is knowing how this is going to show up is incredibly powerful for you as a parent.  Working with the energy will prove to be more effective than trying to suppress it. To calculate your child’s Mars sign, go to www.astro.com and enter your child’s birth data.

Mars Through the Signs:

Aries Mars:  Are you getting called to the principal’s office because your child used their fists and not their words?  Welcome to Aries Mars.  The red planet has his boxing gloves ready in this sign.  Quick to temper and quick to cool.  These individuals are direct and confrontational when they aren’t getting their needs met. These individuals need to know they are on the best and fastest track to success. Proactive channeling of this energy comes in handy through sports and competition.

Taurus Mars:  “No.” or “It’s Mine!” Oh it’s a favorite phrase.  If you disturb the status quo, you are tempting the bull wake up.  They need transition time and don’t do well with sudden shifts.  Make sure you give a warning shot before changing the plan or activity.  They have a tendency to just settle into stubbornness as an act of defiance. Sharing is not a strong suit here. Try taking turns with a timer instead.

Gemini Mars:  “Just a minute…”  or interrupting others.  Air signs as a whole don’t process anger very well.  They use distraction to ignore the problem and will often times procrastinate.  But once you do get them to talk about the real issue, get ready for ALL the thoughts (and there are a lot)!  They don’t like to have their ideas criticized as they take it as a personal offense.  They will also deflect with brilliant wit or sarcasm to show how smart they are.

Cancer Mars:  “My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die.”  The crab is the sign of Cancer. Crabs move sideways and will give room for others until it gets to be too much.   They are likely to retreat an only attack if needed.  Sulking and accusing are common ways Mars shows up here.  These individuals like to feel like they have power with their emotions.  But then they reach a level where the outburst is out of proportion to the event.

Leo Mars:  “They did this TO ME! And it was on purpose!”  The ego is this Mars’ biggest target.  When they feel ignored, they turn up the heat until they get the recognition they need.  Leo Mars children are those who are dramatic often exaggerating what happened TO THEM.  It’s hard for them to see the world from another’s point of view when they are hurt.

Virgo Mars:  “I was just trying to help!” Or “It’s their fault!” Are common phrases from angry Virgo Mars kids.  These kiddos are convinced they know the right way to do things and everyone else is wrong.   It’s the other persons fault because they didn’t live up to the Virgo’s standards.  They will unleash their hurt by criticizing others.  Their comments can be devastatingly cruel at times, but know it is more about their pain and frustration.

Libra Mars:  “That’s not fair!” It’s a common phrase uttered by these individuals.  They are quick to point out the injustices.  These individuals have an easier time showing the wrongdoings in the system or authority vs. taking ownership that it hurt them personally.  Look for compromise with these kids.  Negotiation is key.

Scorpio Mars:   “I didn’t do it!”  Nope, but they were the mastermind behind the whole group acting out.  And chances are, in the teen years, they are the ones who started the rumors.  They know it’s about self control and won’t sting unless it’s a guaranteed hit straight to the heart.  They will turn their anger into power and save up the injustices until they lash out.  The best thing for you to do is help them acknowledge their hurt.

Sagittarius Mars:  “But you aren’t listening!”  These individuals want all of their ideas to be acknowledged.  They have strong opinions and can insight moral and intellect to justify their positions.  If you find yourself in a debate with your kiddo, best to take a time out for yourself. When you come back to the argument, appeal to what principles are “right,” not which person.

Capricorn Mars:  “But they were in my way.”  These individuals are goal oriented and will often boss people around.  They are typically patient, but ambitious.  If someone gets in the way of their plans, expect them to go to plan B to get their objective met.  Instead, help them think out what’s worked in the past to help them move forward.

Aquarius Mars:  “You can’t tell me what to do!”  Oh, that freedom loving Aquarius.  This is their big hot button.  It has nothing to do with their plans, but more about who they are and how they are expressing themselves.  And by the way, if you ask, “Why did you do that?” Be prepared for an extensive list of rationalizations.  You can help them by helping them come up with better possible solutions that get their needs met and let them decide.

Pisces Mars:  “Don’t tell me what’s possible!” Or “Why does everyone hate me?!”   These kiddos have pie in the sky ideas and the faith that they can do it.  They don’t appreciate if you tell them a flying car isn’t possible, because they will just answer, “It isn’t YET.”  Stand back and appreciate their ideals otherwise you might find them sabotaging things covertly.  These individuals are prone to use helplessness as a weapon.  Help them take accountability for their own feelings and actions in the situation.  As Eleanor Roosevelt said, “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.”

The Sun: Who Am I?

Let’s talk about that brilliant ball of light that not only grows us amazing veggies and flowers, but also can give anyone a blistering burn if we worship it for too long on a bright day.  I’m talking about the sun and how it behaves through the signs of the zodiac.

Planet Facts:

Travel Time:  about 365 days to make 1 cycle

Day of the week:  Sunday

Zodiac Sign it Rules:  Leo

Dignities: Special Signs for the Sun

Domicile:  Leo

“Enough about me, lets talk about you.  What do you think about me?”  The Sun is at home in Leo where it can shine to it’s fullest.

Detriment:  Aquarius

Opposite of the home base.  Leo is focused on the Me; Aquarius is focused on the Community.  If the Sun is placed here, it just has to work harder to gain the spotlight.

Exalted:  Aries

This is his place of honor.  Aries likes to be noticeable and first.  When the sun is here, it can get his job done easily.

Fall:  Libra

The opposite of the exalted position.  Libra is worried about equal partnerships, not individual spotlights.  When the sun is here in a natal chart, it can indicate some difficulties getting its expressions heard.

Sun Signs: How it Behaves + Natural Gifts

Our core self and where our natural talents and focuses are. Your sun sign represents what you are known for.  It also represents the intellect and ego.  What pushes you forward?  In traditional astrology in day charts, the sun represents the father.  It is where we get our natural energy.

Sun in Aries:  Courage.

Keyword:  I AM.  You instinctively know how to act and will be the first on-board.  Patience IS NOT your virtue.  You like being the the thick of things and will do your best.  Success only pushes you forward.  You like to be in charge of yourself.  Thank u, next!

Sun in Taurus:  Dependable.

Keyword:  I HAVE.  You find things of value and hang onto them.  Sun in Taurus individuals know good taste when you see it.  You are slow to start, but quick to get in a rut and are committed to the long haul.  Blending the sense of being grounded with an air of sophistication is your specialty.  Loyalty is highly valued.

Sun in Gemini:  Responsive.

Keyword:  I THINK.  I know I said, “responsive,” but let’s be honest: its hard for you NOT to be responsive. Quick in thought and action, some may call you scattered.  It’s not chaotic; you know where everything is in those messy piles!  You like multiple deadlines and the rush of managing it all.  Your wit and sarcasm is razor sharp.  Boredom is a 4 letter word for you.  For inspiration, look no further than Clairee’s character in Steel Magnolias, “If you don’t have anything nice to say, come sit next to me!”  You have the 411 on everyone!

Sun in Cancer:  Nurturing.

Keyword:  I FEEL.  These individuals wear a hard shell of armor on the outside to protect their kind and gentle ways.  They literally carry their homes with them at all time so people feel comfortable.  However, the minute to knock on their shells, they hide away and pretend it wasn’t their idea.  They INITIATE emotional connections, but reserve the right NOT to respond.  They relish the idea of being sentimental and helping others feel connected as long as they have a chance to disconnect when they think you are taking too much.

Sun in Leo:  Energetic.

Keyword:  I WILL. These individuals hold court even when things are quiet and there is no one around.  They live life as if they were on stage.  They are the natural entertainer and the spotlight seems to follow them wherever they go.  However, one small thorn in that lion’s paw can cause the drama to swell.  To them that is a mortal enemy to their image and their ego.  Recognition comes easily to these individuals. They genuinely like themselves and just being around them makes you like yourself more too.  They are the natural cheerleaders.

Sun in Virgo:  Discerning.

Keyword:  I ANALYZE.  These individuals think about how to improve everything all the time.  They have a natural tendency to shine the spotlight on the weak point, not because they want you to feel bad, but to normalize it and help you problem solve.  Its no wonder others feel so criticized, but really it is done out of love.  They are shakers and movers of the zodiac because they always see new projects.  They will help you simplify hard tasks, organize your resources, and help you identify your priorities.

Sun in Libra:  Charm.

Keyword:  I BALANCE.  The sun is in his fall here because all Libra wants is a partner in life.  As Tyrion in Game of Thrones illustrated, “No one is very happy, which means it’s a good compromise.”  Libra is known for their diplomacy which means that the spot light isn’t on them.  Their sun shines brightly for everyone and as a result they don’t get all of the warmth.  As a paradox, Libras want to be admired for their charm and their brilliance of handling social situations with grace.

Sun in Scorpio:  Determined.

Keyword:  I DESIRE.  These individuals carry a coat of armor, claws, and a stinging tail.  They are intense and look for the hidden motivation.  They are magnetic in their ability to draw people in and adept in their range of skills.  Your follow through is penetrating and intense just like the power of your memory.  Like the Leo, a Scorpio will not let you back into their sunlight if you have crossed them.  Secrets are currency.  Scorpios know that the sun is useful, but so are the shadows.

Sun in Sagittarius:  Optimistic.

Keyword:  I SEE.  The Sun soars through the sky with these individuals.  They will often aim higher than their target, in hopes of hitting something.  They are the rustic individuals who are always following the sun on the next adventure.  These archers want to know the larger picture, the hidden cultures, and the mysticism of life.  People like you for your easy-going spirit and ability to ground them into a higher purpose.  Crisis actually brings out the best in you; with one well placed smile and a joke you unite the group into a common goal.  Details are your downfall.

Sun in Capricorn:  Ambition.

Keyword:  I USE. Welcome to the CEO energy of the universe.  If it’s not useful, these sea goats will be quick to cut their losses.  They employ strategy in everything.  What they forget is that people are more than a cog in a machine.  They view goal attainment on treadmills; there’s always a continual loop of achievement.  Promises are etched in stone and the world is viewed in black and white.  For as many trophies they have on their wall, they always fear they aren’t good enough.

Sun in Aquarius:  Original.

Keyword:  I KNOW. These individuals want to know the boundaries just so they can see how far they can push beyond it.  They believe themselves to be a bit intellectually superior although always approachable.  Aquarians look out for the larger issues of the world, but can feel largely detached to themselves.  They play devils advocate for fun.  The Sun is in detriment here.  It is like the Planet of Me is trying to fit in to a party celebrating the Everyone.  It’s hard to figure out where that spotlight lands.

Sun in Pisces:  Compassion.

Keyword:  I BELIEVE.  When two fish are connected but swimming in opposite directions, it doesn’t create forward motion:  it creates a cyclone of emotion digging deeper.  The Sun in Pisces knows it’s not moving forward and it’s ok; first it must have a vision of where it wants to go.  But before that it must have the emotional impulse for inspiration to change.  This is the wisdom of Pisces.  They know everything is interconnected and they are ok with the blurring of the boundaries.  On a hot day, we stare off into the highway and we see a shimmer; perhaps the mirage of glimmering water.  Pisces is the first to hand you a cup of water to quench your thirst.

Starting 2020 Off with a Bang: Saturn Conjunct Pluto in Capricorn

When the universe asks you to grow, you don’t decline the invitation.

As Jupiter moves across my ascendant, I have accepted several challenges. For one, I was nominated to the Steering Committee of the Association for Astrological Networking. And I also launched my YouTube channel talking about a doozy of a transit: January’s Saturn conjunct Pluto.

This transit is going to change how we restructure leadership to support our integrity. And the effects of this transit will shape the next 3 decades. In my video, I did a deep dive on how the two task master planets have aligned since 1900 and what we can expect with this evolution.

I’ll be using my YouTube channel for the deeper dives into bigger transits and forecasting. But don’t worry, I’ll still be blogging to update how astrology manifests on a daily basis and educational content of how you can apply astrology to your personal chart.

Be sure to share what you think of my debut and feel free to share if you think it was valuable!

Jupiter in Capricorn in 2020

Jupiter is the planet of wealth, abundance, and luck.  While he’s been touring his home sign of Sagittarius this past year, our awareness expanded and idealism for our lives soared.  But on December 2, 2019 big daddy moves into Capricorn and will stay there until December 18, 2020.  All those soaring skyscrapers we built in 2019 are now getting inspected for structural soundness.  It’s time for optimism to face reality.

Just The Facts, Ma’am

Capricorn is known for being serious.  They like stability, practicality, and building things that will last.  While Sagittarius is the teenager on gap year touring the world and staying in hostels, Capricorn is their first job with real responsibilities.

Jupiter in Capricorn feels restricted.  He follows through with his sense of duty and his ethics are sound.  He knows the rules and is ready to show he has the discipline to take on real power versus just puffing his chest like a peacock.  The downside is he can be governed by fear vs. optimism.  He’s trimming the fat and is conservative overall.

On a positive side, Jupiter in Capricorn teaches us how to be resourceful.  He learns that limits and scarcity teach us how to pair down and focus on what we truly value.  While we may have had the funds to splurge on what tickled our fancy while he toured Sagittarius, we now pause at the checkout line and ask, “Does help me attain my overall big goal?”

Historical Precedence

The last time Jupiter was in Capricorn was in 2008 .  The S&P remained steady until Pluto entered Capricorn in November 2008 when it began to take a turn.  This time, Pluto is still there and Jupiter is catching up. Themes of 2008 will echo back through 2020.  For those of us living in the United States, this transit is hitting our 2nd house of money.  An economic correction is settling in.  Many astrologers and economists expect stocks to fall during this time with potential government intervention.

Slow, But Steady

The month of December will feel a shift, but it will be slow.  Jupiter will still have dignity by touring through his decan and his term, but by January 29th the tone will become heavier.  Having Jupiter in his term helps him function on a higher ethical frequency where he can be true to his nature.  Bills are due, leadership is more demanding, and you are expected to face the music.  It is a time to step into your self-determination, take stock in your resources, and elevate your professionalism.

While this transit is more of a collective and societal shift, some signs will feel it more than others on a personal level.  Those with prominent cardinal planets, (Aries, Cancer, Libras and Capricorn) will definitely feel this transition.  Those with prominent Capricorn in their charts will actually feel this shift as a sense of relief.

Midlife Transits: Saturn Opposition

Saturn does his best work when he’s working on something long term.  At age 29 he makes his first return to his natal position where we first realize we are now real grown ups and start taking on more responsibility.  At 44, we have the mid-point of this cycle where we can evaluate how we are doing.  Welcome to the Saturn Opposition part of Midlife Crisis.

At 28, I was the youngest department director in the pediatric hospital.  It was a dream come true.  I supervised 200 employees, an award winning program I built from scratch, and I was just beginning to date my future husband.  When he proposed at age 31, people thought I was crazy for giving up my career and moving across country.  But here I am at age 44, on the brink of my Saturn opposition looking back and I wouldn’t have changed a thing.  My career isn’t anywhere near what I thought it was going to be; its 100% better.  I even have a wonderful husband, two crazy kids, and a dog to boot.  But I had to risk it all to get everything I have.

Saturn is our planet of hard earned rewards.  Managing Saturn takes true wisdom and it usually affects the areas of life where we are our most vulnerable.  Saturn will hold what Venus attracts.  He can also protect and put up boundaries, but be careful that those boundaries don’t isolate you.  Part of what we do in this transit is evaluate and make choices about what we are going to keep and what we are going to give up in order to pursue what we want in the long range.

For example, if we start to realize that we’ve sacrificed everything just to have a marriage, we might get rid of the marriage.  Or if we realize we’ve rejected every blind date because of exceedingly high criteria we might loosen the rigidity.  Often when we take a good hard look uncomfortable feelings come up.  I’ve had clients express fear of the future, guilt that they settled for being comfortable, inadequacy, rejection, or depression.  All of these feelings are normal.  It’s just part of us recommitting to our path and giving ourselves some grace moving forward.  When Saturn returns to its natal position at age 58, you will be glad you had a chance to check in and course-correct if needed.

Saturn oppositions require us to clarify our path and commit to our values.  It requires a choice between things.  And often it requires clarity and pairing down to what’s essential to success.

Going Deep with Mercury in Scorpio

Let’s spend some time talking about Mercury in Scorpio, shall we?  Normally this quick moving planet of communication and commerce spends on average about 30 days in each sign.  But this month he moved into Scorpio on October 4th and is staying there until December 1st.  I’d say it’s high time for us to get to know this energy.

Deep Thinker, Deep Communicator

The nature of Mercury deals with our mental power and how we communicate.  He is the electricity between our nerve synapses and the magnetic flow that keeps our compass pointing North.  Mercury stands for our mind and our intellect.  It’s how we decide and show our understanding.

Mercury in Water signs (Pisces, Cancer, Scorpio) reacts to emotional situations and feels comfortable when feelings are expressed.  This planet digs deep into the emotional caverns of what hasn’t been explored in a long time.  Mercury in Scorpio is a sharp thinker and will answer questions with better questions.  He can either drown people with too much information like a raging river when he wants a connection, or will dry up the well and sting when trying to evade.

Retrograde = Series of 3!

The reason why Mercury is hanging out in Scorpio for so long is because he’s going turn retrograde on Halloween for about 3 weeks.  Once he stations direct and goes forward again he has to retread all that old ground he already covered.  What does that mean for us?  Well, we will probably encounter a Series of 3.  Events of a similar nature are going to unfold for you like sequels of a movie 3x.  As the planet grinds back and forth (direct – retrograde – direct), we get the same transit 3x.

When this transit is occurring, expect longer conversations about harder and previously hidden topics. And remember that Series of 3 retrograde maneuver?  Watch for it on October 25th, November 10th, and again on December 3rd when Mercury will be in a sextile to Pluto in Capricorn.  Pluto likes to transform the conversation and bring out what’s private so that’s going to be the theme of that trilogy. Keep your eye out for uncovered truths.  Things will not go back to how they were.
